Cumberland County Children's Theatre presents James and the Giant Peach, Jr.

August 6, 2021 – James and the Giant Peach, Jr., is ready to set sail as the premier production for Maine’s newest children’s theater. Cumberland County Children’s Theatre was formed in 2021 following the Covid-related closure of Gray’s Fiddlehead Center for the Arts. In March of 2020, a necessary response to the Covid-19 pandemic closed the production of James a week prior to the children’s first show. Later in the year, Covid also drove a permanent closure of the Center, which had been offering children’s arts and enrichment for more than 18 years.

It is with great anticipation, and much pride, that the new Cumberland County Children’s Theatre proudly brings the original cast back to the stage in a celebratory production of James and the Giant Peach, Jr.

The show is two nights only on Friday, August 19 and Saturday, August 20. The show will be outdoors at the Stonehedge event venue at 342 West Gray Road in Gray. Doors open at 6:00 pm and the show starts at 6:30 pm.

Roald Dahl’s beloved tale follows young orphan James who is forced to live with his wicked Aunt Spiker and Aunt Sponge. His sad life of servitude takes a positive turn when he meets a mysterious stranger and his magic. Suddenly, a new adventure is presented in the form of an oversized peach and some unusual, buggy friends. The songs in James and the Giant Peach will have you singing along in no time, perhaps even wishing that you, too, could set sail in a magic fruit.

Bring a picnic blanket or folding chair, your family and friends, and join in for a night of singing and celebrating. Entry is by donation at the door. All proceeds will support the growth of the new Cumberland County Children’s Theatre. CCCT offers high quality theatre experiences to children and families in southern and central Maine.
